HR 4881
Here is a link to the House Resolution (HR) 4881 that Congressman Wittman (R-VA) mentioned at the Town Hall meeting in Newport News on July 12. Unsure how official this particular site is, but you can access the bill text from here - I will only update the link if I find another that's better - this seems pretty good.

The bill is presently in the Ways and Means Committee. Here is the list of Committee Members - if one is your representative, please write to them! You must have a mailing address in their district to write them.

HR 4697
Here is another Bill - HR 4697, this one sponsored by a Louisiana Rep, but co-sponsored by G. Nye (Va Beach - still not my guy, but I've written him before - no response, but not in his district, so not a surprise). This one allows for remediation costs to be tax-deductable - not quite as good as the depreciation on the house (it's an uninsured casualty loss, dammit), but for me, we're still talking a few $10,000's so far, which would translate into something somewhat helpful... So, support this one too! This is also in the Ways and Means Committee...

SENATE 2850
S.2850: To permit the use of Federal funds from the Community Development Block Grant Program to be used to remediate damage from the installation of tainted drywall, and for other purposes.
Chinese Drywall Homeowners Assistance Act
A VERY easy read (2 pages)... in fact, here it is in a nutshell:
Notwithstanding any other provision of law, including any provision under title I of the Housing and Community Development Act of 1974 (42 U.S.C. 5301 et seq.), the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development may permit any State or unit of general local government receiving assistance pursuant to section 106 of such Act to use such assistance to provide homeowners residing in such State or unit of general local government with such monetary assistance as may be necessary to repair or replace tainted drywall.
There is a paragraphs specific to Louisiana, but otherwise, looks like a good bill to me. There is a fund already opened in Virginia by Del. Oder to distribute funds the state may received fromma Federal Grant - this looks like a good vehicle. Support.
