ACTUAL RETURNS

This information is primarily intended for anyone happening onto this page, in the same situation, and considering self-remediation.

The portion of our house being repaired is approximately 2430 sq. ft., 4 bedroom, 2.5 bath. This information is important to scale the data in the table below to your situation.

The people peforming the remediation are all skilled do-it-yourselfers, but nobody is a contractor by trade. Some volunteers are working full time (contributing their vacation), regardless, we are taking the work very seriously and trying to do a good job, but quickly. The planning returns are dramatically low since all planning between July 2009 and April 13, 2010 was not logged. The planning logging began within days of deciding that this was the approach we were going to take

The material dollar values are pretty roughly rounded - just provided for estimating purposes - we (obviously) have very detailed receipt records - I just rounded for simplicity - not all costs are necessarily reflected here (I suspect the "moving" category is lower here than real) - again, it should be used for planning purposes only.

The "days" reflect calendar days where a single hour was logged - not meant to mean "8 hour days". The people helping are also broken down - this is not a one man job, but in our case, 5 people did 83% of the work.

All these records were kept using a simple (but effective) software program I wrote myself - if interested in obtaining a copy (free), contact me.
