Our House Symptoms

People often ask "How did you know you had Chinese Drywall?"

In July of 2009, our air-conditioner failed for the 7th time in 3 years - another new evaporator... After questioning the product quality, workmanship, and parentage of my A/C repair guy (all of whom I knew by name at this point), he suggested that I might have CD. Not knowing what that was, I did a little web surfing, and within 30 minutes, I knew I had it...

We've had (now) 8 A/C failures (and counting), 2 refrigerator failures, 2 TV failures, several computer crashes, our electrical wires look like they're covered in soot, and our pipes are either covered in black corrosion or are pitted. I have a door hinge in the master bathroom that looks to be 100 years old. Picture frames, belt buckles, letter openers, and many other household items are corroding before our eyes... After realizing what we had, it was odd that we never were concerned before...

Once we challenged our builder, they cut into the walls and found the "MFG TAIHE CHINA" stamp, and later they used an XRF analyzer (x-ray) to determine that it was throughout the upstairs (all walls and ceilings) and downstairs ceilings, and we've found 4 more boards in the downstairs walls. The discriminator was the width of drywall - all of the 48" boards in the house are Chinese, all of the 54" boards are domestic. Was it just a supply issue? After hearing some background from a neutral source, I'm convinced the root of my problem was a villian... You cannot assume integrity in anyone anymore.
